I never thought of myself as someone who was super enthusiastic about poetry.  But I think that was through the lens of a younger version of myself and one who was force-fed poetry and over-analyses in school.

Although I still don’t gravitate towards poetry in the way that some might, I have found so much delight and inspiration and LIFE in the poetry I have visited.  I think there was an idea stuck in my head that poetry needs to be deep and serious to have value, but much like my take on picture books vs. novels, I have found myself not only letting go of this idea, but also recognizing just how much worth children’s poetry holds, silly ones and all.

Sometimes I do forget about poetry for a while, only to have it creep back into my life when I need it most.  This list might not grow as quickly as some of the others, but I am sure excited to share the poetry books that resonate for me.
