If you’re looking for a Star Wars-related book for your young kids, look no further!

I Wish I Had a Wookiee is a charming poetry book full of Star Wars characters and references! There are 79 poems in this delightful collection. Each poem is Star Wars-themed without being violent or scary. The poems in here are playful and imaginative, welcoming and fun. The moment we cracked the cover of our library copy of this, I immediately knew this was a “must-own” in our house.
There’s a poem about the good that General Grievous could do with his many arms if his heart just grew in size. There’s a poem where the child imagines his room is The Millennium Falcon and one where the child imagines she’s a droid. There are sweet interactions within groups of kids and funny chuckles for some of the interactions with the kids and their parents. The variance of length and types of poems is a major plus for reading out loud or for new or reluctant readers. All the poems have a lovely flowing rhythm and rhyme to them and often have a fun twist at the end.
In anticipation of May the 4th and the wrapping up of April’s National Poetry Month, this is a great read to check out right now! Whether you’ve got hardcore Star Wars fans in the house or you’re just looking for a fun intro to poetry, I Wish I Had a Wookiee is definitely a winner.
